CLIFFORD ODETS



Clifford Odets (Filadelfia, 18 luglio 1906 – Los Angeles, 18 agosto 1963) è stato uno sceneggiatore, regista e attore teatrale statunitense.
Mosse i suoi primi passi nella compagnia teatrale del Theatre Guild, più nota in seguito come Group Theatre, divenendone autore dal 1928. I suoi scritti sono state più volte rappresentati e, fino al 1941, vengono inseriti nel periodo giovanile di Odets.
Dal 1931 ai primi anni '40 trascorse le estati al Pine Brook Country Club, Connecticut, quartier generale per le prove del Group Theatre, formato da Lee Strasberg, Harold Clurman e Cheryl Crawford. Lavoravano al Pine Brook anche Elia Kazan, Sanford Meisner, Luise Rainer, Harry Morgan, John Garfield, Francis Farmer, Will Geer, Lee J. Cobb, Howard Da Silva e Irwin Shaw.
Alla fine degli anni '40 tornò al teatro con The Big Knife (Il grande coltello, del 1951) e Flowering Peach, del 1954. Momento chiave della sua vita personale e della sua carriera, la convocazione, nel 1952, a deporre di fronte all'HUAC.
